• 1954: A. Scott Crossfield, Recognized for being the first man to fly twice the speed of sound at the age of 32.
• 1966: Joe H. Engle, Recognized for flight testing the NASA-USAF X-15 research rocket airplane and earning astronaut wings.
• 1967: Eugene F. Kranz, Recognized for contributions as Flight Director of Mission Control at NASA
• 1972: Sheila E. Widnall, Recognized for aerodynamic research, later became Secretary of the Air Force and President of AIAA
• 1980: William F. Ballhous, Jr., Recognized for significant contributions to Computational Fluid Dynamics as Director of Astronautics at NASA Ames.

While this list of past recipients is impressive, don’t let it intimidate you. These examples prove that young professionals do make a difference to our profession – don’t overlook the contributions being made by the young members of your company!

We know that young professionals are out there today doing amazing things, and we need YOUR help to find and recognize them. Please take a few moments to consider if you might know a young engineer (under the age of 35) who has made outstanding contributions to the field of aeronautics and astronautics. The small amount of effort it takes to nominate and recognize the efforts of a young professional will bring both you and the candidate a great feeling of satisfaction!

Act now! Nominations are due July 1st! AIAA members may place an online nomination by logging into My AIAA, http://www.aiaa.org/content.cfm?pageid=332.
